MY REFLECTION ABOUT THE PHILOSOPHICAL MATERIALS STUDIED WITHIN WEEK 11

 

In this week, I learnt about scientific explanation, theories & theoretical explanation and concept formation.

Under scientific explanation, learnt about two basic requirements for scientific explanation such as requirement of explanatory relevance and requirement of testability, deductive nomological explanation, explanandum phenomenon, probabilistic explanation, statistical probabilities & probabilistic laws and the inductive character of probabilistic explanation.

Under, theories & theoretical explanation, learnt about general characteristics of theories, internal & bridge principles that a theory require, theoretical understanding and theoretical entities.

Under concept formation, learnt about the difference between descriptive & stipulative, operationism & operational definitions, empirical & systematic import of scientific concept, scientific systematization and the character of interpretative sentences.

It can be concluded that, I could enrich & expand my knowledge & understanding about scientific explanation, theories & theoretical explanation and concept formation during this week form the reading materials which are highly relevant to the study of philosophy of science.
