MY REFLECTION ABOUT THE PHILOSOPHICAL MATERIALS STUDIED WITHIN WEEK 04

Started this week learning about testimony, reason and rationality and conditional statement.

Under testimony, I learnt what testimony is , what are the philosophical issues concerning testimony, how can we divide our central issue about testimony along two dimensions yielding four distinct questions to investigate: Descriptive  Local Question, Normative Local Question, Descriptive Global Question and Normative Global Question, about the scope of testimony,  understanding and knowledge of what has been asserted, general explanatory account of how testimony-beliefs may be justified and knowledgeable, about the psychology of belief-acquisition through testimony, what are the conditions for justified beliefs in what one is told, about the knowledge of what one is told and under this learnt about Pure Transmission Principle (PTP) as well as Reliable Transmission Principle (RTP). Furthermore, I learnt the extent of dependence on testimony within an adult person’s system of empirical belief and about global normative issues.

Under reason and rationality, I learnt about three projects in the study of reason such as descriptive, normative and evaluative projects. Furthermore learnt about some disquieting results from the experimental literature on human reasoning, how have been taken to support the pessimistic interpretation, about the conception of the mind and its history advocated by evolutionary psychologists, what are the implications of massive modularity for the evaluate project, about the pragmatic objectives, the range of problems surrounding the interpretation and application of the principles of the Standard Picture of rationality and last about the rejecting the Standard Picture in favor of some alternative conception of normative standards.

Under conditional statements, I learnt about conditional statements using if…then…, if not…then…, only if, conditional false, truth table, bi-conditionals. Moreover, learnt about different statements likenecessary, sufficient, converse & inverse. And also, I learnt about contraceptives, negation of a conditional and how to analyze conditional statements.

It can be concluded that I could improve the knowledge more on logic and philosophy within this week after following the assigned philosophical and logical references that are easily clarifying the testimony, reason & rationality and the conditional statements.
